Group of volunteers from local businesses help for day of making a difference

Staff from local companies Michael Jones Jewellers and Stanley Black and Decker, alongside staff from Sainsbury’s Argos who travelled from as far away as Essex, Somerset and Manchester to get here, all made a difference this week by spending a day volunteering with Workbridge staff and service users.

The group spent the day volunteering in Workbridge’s vocational workshops, and took part in gardening, ceramics, helping in the coffee shop and garden centre. There were 13 volunteers in total and their work had a big impact.

The volunteers enjoyed the experience. One commented:

“You don’t often get to see the results of your volunteering, so it’s nice to see the outcome and a difference straight away here in the secret garden.”

Another volunteer explained:

“I am loving the volunteering day. To look around and see people with different disabilities and capabilities not being judged by anyone, all being on the same level as each other and the staff and everyone all laughing, socialising and having fun was brilliant. It’s so special here.”

Dawn Wright, Voluntary Services Manager for St Andrew’s, said:

“Volunteers at both Workbridge and St Andrew’s are greatly valued and make a huge difference to the lives of the patients and staff. The day was fantastic – they were a great team who were all very generous with their time and commitment to their given tasks and our staff and patients thoroughly enjoyed working alongside them. We are always looking for additional volunteers and their work made a real and measurable difference to our patients and services. We are truly grateful for their support."
